The Brooklyn Children’s Museum Page 2 of 2
 Brooklyn, NY

Exhibit:“Animals Eat”
Other Development Team Members: Carol Enseki, Richard Roach, Max Cameron, Eric O’Toole, Barbara Punt.

The Animal Diner: The Visitors place “plates” of foods on trays for nine animals seated at the diner. If the animal eats the selected kind of food, a “yes” light flashes on. If the animal doesn’t eat that kind of food, the “no” light flashes and the plate is pushed off of the tray magically by hidden magnets under the tray. The units automatically reset in both cases.

Insect Mouths as Tools: Three different tools are mounted on rotating drums in front of six insect heads. When the correct tool on the drum matches an insect head, the light under the head flashes. The units reset themselves as the drums are slightly spring loaded with magnets.

The Omnivore Hunt: The Visitor is asked to find 10 foods that two different omnivores eat by pushing buttons on the wall. Lights come on as they find the correct foods. When they are all found, the lights flash and the units reset. The units also reset after a certain time of inactivity.

Exhibit: “Night Journeys”

Sleep Time Varies: A rotating arrow points to one of seven different animals. Light boxes on the right turn on for each animal indicating how long that animal sleeps each day.

Exhibit: “BCM’s 90th Birthday!”

Jacob’s Ladder: When a button is pushed, a high voltage spark travels up between two copper rods.
Electric Generator: A geared hand crank generates current to power a bulb. An antique galvanometer displays the direction and amplitude of the current.

Exhibit: “The Music Studio”

Roller Games: Three rollers present answers to three questions about musical instruments on display. The Visitor is prompted to position the rollers correctly to answer the questions for one of the instruments indicted by a light. After the questions are correctly answered, the light moves on to indicate a new instrument, thus requiring new answers and effectively resetting the units.

Exhibit: “Dr. Dimension 2”

Light to Heavy 2: This was a copy of the original “Light to Heavy”, which was built for a second version of the exhibit after the original exhibit ended. Improvements included smoother and quieter ejection mechanics and logic improvements such as the disabling of the ejection system when no blocks are in place.
