The Berlin Formation:
Dinosaur State Park Rocky Hill, CT
Description: In this project, we reconstructed The Berlin Formation, a subterranean geologic structure that covers much of the local area and is visible in nearby
roadcuts. The formation consists of several different types of sedimentary rock formed as the area changed from being covered by water, to being a floodplain, to being an arid desert. It is at the “flood
plain layer” that dinosaur trackways are commonly found preserved in what used to be mud. The reconstructed display also served to exhibit part of the museum’s collection of preserved dinosaur
footprints. Also included were some dimensional flip panels showing the difference between “positive” and “negative” footprints, “underprints” and other terms of the dino-footprint business.
